Developmental biology is the science that studies how embryos develop into adult organisms. The process of development happens in most of the multicellular organisms: flies, worms, mice and humans. So, we have always developed from a embryo formed by the fertilisation of the egg cell by the sperm, but we have been trying to understand this process in the last 80 or 100 years.
