If I had all the money I needed I would expand my research on pregnant women and children.

I think like Emmanuel, recruiting many women to my study would be great, but there are a few big experiments that I wish I could do (like sequencing genes) that are just too expensive with my budget.

Money isn’t everything – time is the most valuable thing for a scientist. You can do a lot with quite a modest budget if you take the time to look carefully and examine things properly. Some things require very expensive equipment such as satellite tracking, gene sequencing and smashing particles together at the speed of light! But these experiments are quite rare and are really aimed at getting at the big things we don’t know. Lots of very valuable work in science is about using the materials we already have and taking the time to answer the smaller questions and fill in all the gaps between the big questions.
