I really love tigers and I think they should be protected and conserved. Tigers are a great focus for conservation because they require so much land to live in – about 2km squared for each adult male. This means that to help them survive we must look after huge amounts of habitat which also means we are looking after lots of other smaller species as well that share the same land so it’s good for all the species not just one.

I think my favourite endangered animal is probably the orangutan, because they are so similar to us and provide us with a link to our distant past. By studying their behaviour, we can find out when some of our behaviours came about, as well as what it is about our brains that makes us human.

It says a lot about the current state of conservation, as these animals, as intelligent as they are, don’t get the right to live in their habitats without the constant threat of destruction.

Poitou donkeys. People are working to save the species, and they are using IVF techniques as used in other animals and people to help. Research which I’ve done to help understand conditions in the womb and what happens before birth may be useful for this in the long run, so indirectly I may have helped.
