I would change the length of time that I have to do research in – we don’t usually get a choice about how long we spend on a piece of research as most science projects are funded for 3-5 years. Sometimes this can mean we have to move to another University or lab quite often.

I would probably change the funding. I think more funds should be made available to scientists to do their work and to encourage young ones like you to get involved in science.

A lot of the experiments I do take days because we can’t afford better equipment to perform these experiments in a shorter period of time. It would be great if there was more funding as we could get faster results, and often better, as more automation means there is less room for human error.

I’d change the length of our contracts. Science is a very uncertain career, and projects are funded by a very short period of time (around 4 years). This makes that you never know what you will do in the future, when the money for your project runs out. That means that you have to change universities very often and sometimes even change country to find a new position with money to continue your research.
