There are certain genes that influence your weight later in life, but what is causing babies to be more likely to become obese later in life is only just being discovered. Your DNA can be packaged up so certain genes can be switched off, or it can be opened up so certain genes can work. We think that what is causing a baby to have a risk of obesity is that genes related to obesity are opened up, and genes linked to being thin are packaged up, while they are in womb.
