The size of a baby depends on several factors. The include the weight of the mother, her eating habit during the pregnancy, the age of the baby at delivery ie if the baby is born prematurely or not, presence or absence of some congenital abnormalities etc. Usually fat mothers give birth to big babies.

It tends to be linked to the size of the mother first and foremost. Often, the bigger a woman is, the bigger a baby she will have, although obese women are more likely to have very small babies as well.

It really depends on how well the placenta is working (this allows nutrients to pass from the mother to the fetus), and if there is a problem, the baby will tend to be small.
