We think that other primates such as Chimps, Gorillas, Bonobos and Orang-Utans have the same emotional responses as us to family members and the group they live in. They’ve even recently been shown to suffer from mid-life blues around the age of 30. Elephants too have been shown to grieve over dead family members and anyone with a cat or a dog probably recognises when their pet is happy or sad.
