      Independence is a big bonus for me – I used to work in an insurance company where I was told when to be at my desk and when to go to lunch and what tasks to do each day. Now I decide myself what needs to be done each day and I enjoy having the freedom to choose how I spend my time.

      I think the best part of what I do is the fact that I can discover new things every day, and find out things that nobody has ever found out before. I suppose I also like to think that I’m making an impact on other people’s lives too.

      I really like to be doing something that will eventually help us to fight against diseases (in my case cancer), and has an impact on society. It is also very exciting doing something new, that only you are doing, and nobody has done before. Discovering a new gene regulating a process, or a new mutation that causes a disease is very thrilling and rewarding.
